Akshara

Gayatri Mantra inscription | Cusped jharokha arch | Swastika motifs | Padmapitha base | Stele form

Akshara means indestructible the eternal letter, the word that cannot be erased. It takes a form unlike any other in the Griha collection. It is a stele: a single upright slab of pure white Makrana marble, its entire face given to the sacred, asking nothing of the space around it but to be seen.

Within a deeply carved cusped jharokha arch, the complete Gayatri Mantra is inscribed in Devanagari the most venerated of Vedic prayers, rendered with the care and precision of a temple inscription. Swastika symbols mark the upper corners, ancient emblems of auspiciousness that frame the text as a shila carving would, in the manner of sacred stone across millennia.

Below the slab, the plinth is carved entirely as a padmapitha a full lotus petal base of great depth and richness, the form that supports the divine in temple sculpture across India. Akshara does not house a murti. It is itself a sacred object: scripture in stone, made for a home where the Mantra carved in marble becomes the living centre of devotion.
