Open pavilion | Lotus arch | Turned columns | Tiered plinth | Wide sanctum
Vrindavan is the sacred grove the place where Krishna plays and this mandir holds the same quality of open invitation. The inner sanctum is unenclosed on three sides, the deity visible from across the room, the space around it as much a part of the design as the marble itself.
Two turned baluster columns support a wide flat canopy with a gently stepped cornice. A carved lotus keystone crowns the arched torana, from which a leaf-scroll border works its way down the inside of the arch with quiet precision. The three-tiered plinth below provides a generous stage for the murti and all the instruments of daily puja. The pure, unbroken white of the Makrana marble is at its most luminous across the broad, open surfaces of the canopy and base.
At 60 centimetres wide, Vrindavan carries the openness and grace of a mandapa the pillared hall at the heart of the temple, where devotion gathers and settles. It is a piece for a home that values openness in its spaces, and in its faith.
